I just wanted to remind all golfers out there, new or old that if you want to be the best at your game, (which is pretty much every golfer), then you should be serious about starting a golf fitness program.
We all know that Tiger Woods has been serious about his golf fitness since he turned 'pro' in 1996. He is living proof that elite golf athletes do exist, and if you want to play your game like Tiger Woods, you need to train like an athlete too.
You can see now that most Professional Golfers are working out, they are looking toned and in top-form (with the exception of a few, no names mentioned!!) Most professional golfers do have a pretty serious fitness workout regime and what more can I say.....if you want to improve your golf, then you should have one too.
So what kind of workouts and exercises are they all performing? Well I can tell you that they are all incorporating the following basic elements into their golf fitness program:
- Flexibility Exercises - These exercises will enhance the range of motion in your joints giving you a more fluid swing and will also reduce the chances of injury.
- Stability Exercises - You will create an absolute solid stable base from which you will be able to hit those powerful shots off the tee and not forgetting the stability required for putting.
- Strength Exercises - Will give you the endurance and stamina you need for the course and the ability to hold your body in extreme positions that are required of the golf swing.
- Power Exercises - What every golfer wants......to add distance to your drives. Just in case you need it, the power exercises will also help you with those awkward shots out of the rough!
The one and only thing that fit golfers have in common for sure is that they all seek advice from a professional golf fitness trainer. After all, you wouldn't go to the dentist with a bad knee would you?

Great site. I didn't know there was so much on the web about fitness. I had recently come across a product that I thought was great.
Also I'm running a golfpoll on my blog about why golfers play golf so click on over if you want to participate. I'll be posting results later.

Liz,
You bring up a great point about serious golfers needing to train like athletes. I espeically like how you keep it very simple in your post, focusing on a fitness program designed around flexibility, stability, strength and power. I've also trained golfers and not a single golf fitness program should be performed without any of those four main components.

A good swing starts with a grip on for beginners or for those who have struggled with the game for some time, it is important to have a grip that will improve their scores. The question is: what exactly is a good catch? How does it really feel? This is actually the point where a handful of training comes in. It does nothing to chance, and it lets you know what feels good decision.
